Faith Formation

Faith is at the core of our school community, distinguishing us from other educational options in Greeley. Our students deepen their understanding of Christ and the Catholic faith through a comprehensive religious curriculum, led by certified teachers trained as catechists, and through a strong emphasis on serving others. Daily prayer, daily Mass, seasonal liturgies, special prayer services, and spiritual retreats help students grow in both faith and devotion. Throughout our school, religious statues, images, and prayer spaces serve as constant reminders to live out our beliefs in everyday life.

Prayer at the Heart

Prayer shapes the rhythm of our school life. We open and close each day with prayer, and we pause to pray before meals and classes. Every grade participates in daily religion instruction, beginning with an understanding of God’s many gifts and growing into deeper lessons about the sacraments, service, prayer, the life of Jesus, and the foundations of our Catholic faith. Our second graders prepare for and celebrate their First Reconciliation, followed by First Communion and Confirmation in third grade, marking important steps in their spiritual journey.

Experiencing Christ’s Love

At St. Mary Catholic School, students encounter Jesus’ love through meaningful prayer, worship, and community experiences. They take part in daily prayer, weekly Mass, retreats, and special liturgical celebrations that nurture their spiritual growth. During school Masses, students actively participate by reading, presenting the gifts, serving as altar servers, and singing in the choir. At our weekly school Rosary, students lead their peers in prayer, setting a strong example of faith for younger classmates.

Supporting One Another

We understand that younger students can find it challenging to fully follow along during Mass, which is why we have our Buddy System. Students in grades 4–8 are paired with children in preschool through 3rd grade to guide them, helping them stay engaged and participate with confidence. Beyond Mass, these buddy pairs collaborate during school activities and enjoy seeing each other around campus. It’s a meaningful connection that not only supports our younger learners but also gives older students valuable opportunities to grow as leaders.

Faith in Action

Our school fosters meaningful spiritual growth by offering students a variety of faith-centered experiences throughout the year. From school-wide retreats to service opportunities, each activity helps deepen their relationship with Christ and strengthen our community. Highlights include our School-wide Lenten Retreat, the 4th Grade Thanksgiving Food Drive, the Middle School Annunciation Heights three-day camp in the Rockies, and more.
