August 15, 2020 Dear Friends of Saint Mary, Today is the beautiful Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary. While it is not a holy day of obligation this year, we still look to the Blessed Virgin Mary as our mother, model, intercessor, and special patroness here at St. Mary Parish. Archbishop Aquila has asked all of us to pray the daily rosary (beginning today) for our country during these very challenging times. In particular, he wrote about our need for faith in God and for the intercession of Mary. How true! We look forward to the beginning of a new school year on campus here at Saint Mary Catholic School. Our school teachers and staff begin this coming week, and the school children return the following week. I will join the teachers for a day of reflection on Tuesday at Cabrini Shrine, and I will lead the eighth grade leadership retreat on August 27. It will be wonderful to have the students and teachers back at Saint Mary, and we look forward to a great new academic year. Things have been busy here at the parish, and I hope to have a new music director and a new youth minister on board in early September. I will let you know when I have more specific information about those two important positions. Our CATHOLIC LIFE IN CHRIST (CLIC) group will have a spiritual day of reflection and prayer on Wednesday, September 16, in the Parish Center. In addition, our THAT MAN IS YOU group will begin again on campus this fall. THANKS to Reece Lyons, one of our young parishioners, who helped with the filming and production of our weekend Mass during the summer. He did a great job, and now he has returned to his college studies in Florida. Just a reminder, we continue with our pandemic schedule of Masses at Saint Mary this weekend. We will have 4 PM Mass in the church on Saturday, 8 AM Mass in the church on Sunday, and 10 AM Mass on the east parking lot and Sunday. Please remember to wear a mask and practice social distancing. Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Have a safe, peaceful and healthy week to come. You can count on my prayers for you and for your families. God bless you! Father Jim Goggins ![]() |
