One would think it sounds like something from Star Wars or Star Trek! But it's not. It is the computer-based assessment we use here at St. Mary Catholic School in order to assess your student's reading level.
You can check out their website directly at STAR Enterprise.
The STAR assessments are performed quarterly, at the beginning of each quarter.
Accelerated Reader quizzes are taken after a student finishes reading his or her book. Once the student takes the STAR test, they are assigned a ZPD (Zone of Proximal Development). This range of numbers (for example, 1.3 to 3.5) refers to the number that the Accelerated Reader program has assigned that book. Renaissance - the producer of the AR program - has proprietary software that they have developed, based on years of research to define each book.

Did you know that it's not only fiction books that are assigned AR numbers? Non-fiction and biographies also have AR numbers. Look at all the things you can read!
